Open up the Spartan Closet to offer warm winter clothing.
Kids and families in need got a chance to pick out free clothes for the winter at South Jefferson High School, Saturday. Everything from hats, coats, to boots.About 130 people came through the doors.
One of the school nurses in the district says for some kids, this is the only way they'll get the winter clothing they need."The kids are coming to school and they're warm," nurse Michele Porter said. "Children cannot learn if they're cold and if they're hungry and this really helps them out."
You can make a clothing donation to the Spartan Closet or a non-perishable food donation all year round at any building in the South Jefferson Central School District.
"Turn out from the community was just wonderful with volunteers and donations," volunteer Fred Morris said. Morris also runs the South Jefferson backpack program. "It really worked out well and we'll do another Spartan Closet."
